How can convince my parents to let me get a MySpace?

Okay my parents are very protective, when it comes to me and my friends. My mom has a myspace and even if I hide my page I'll have to be her friend on there and it's okay with me. But my parents think I'm stupid enough to go and meet someone off MySpace. Does anyone have any advice so I can try talking to tell to let them get a MySpace. ~I'm not going behind their backs and I'm not stupid~

I still haven't let my daughter get one. it's not that I think it's that much of a problem. I mean let's face it. You can disappear and re-appear on the net with a new persona.

She just hasn't asked me for the 100th time yet. Once she does I'll let her.

How many times have you asked?

tell them it's a school project on communication and don't spend more than an hour a day on it for a month or so until they get comfortable.

tell your mom that their is section on your computer where you can check what you have done on the computer and also you can keep your myspace private so "friends" have to ask you first to be your friend.just press CTRL +H AND YOU WILL GET YOUR HISTORY OF YOUR COMPUTER

just beg them and if your younger than 12 then you dont need one but say im not stupid. im not gonna meet a guy. and tell then that everything is safe and you can make everything private where only your friends can see it.

if they dont want you to have a myspace you just have to accept it, but if making your mom your friend on myspace is all you need to do to make one then do it. if you know you wouldn't meet someone through myspace, then you have to assure them you wont. they can trust you because you wouldn't go behind their backs.

myspaces are overated. . . its a proven fact that over 60 inmates in texas have a myspace and their relatives keep it up to date 4 them. . . why get a myspace??? all they are for is to show off pictures of yourself or ppl will fight with u cuz they're braver. . . dont get one its a waste of time..

It's all about trust. They don't TRUST you to do the right thing.

Put it to them THIS way: "You raised me to do the right thing...don't you TRUST ME?" "Do you really think I'm so STUPID that I would actually meet some idiot I met on Myspace?" "Give me credit for having SOME sense!"

Suggest that you get one on probation, for say, 2 months; and they get to check it whenever they want...

After the 2 months, if you're still being good, they let you go for it on your own - with the option of checking up on you at any time without your knowledge or you permission.

If you have nothing to hide, then them checking your page is no big deal.

I'm not sure how old you are... but anyone under 13 should not even be allowed to be on that page. It makes me shudder seeing all of the 11-year-olds posing like hoochies on My Space. ANYWAY, with that said, I'm going to assume you're older than 13.

I would sit down with them and discuss the dangers of the internet. Make an agreement to where you HAVE to keep your profile hidden from people who aren't on your friends list. Allow your parents to have FULL access to your page (give them your password). Of course, have your mom be your friend on My Space. If you give them full control of the situation, they might let you or at least consider it. You can set up a time limit that you can be on the internet playing with My Space... like no more than one hour a day.

If they STILL won't let you, you're just going to have to be mature about it and wait patiently until they feel that you're old enough to have one. Show them you're responsible... do your chores and get good grades. I don't blame them at all... the internet can completely rob a child of their innocence. Cheesy, I know. When I was 18, I made a My Space page and I was absolutely DISGUSTED by all the gross messages I would get by random guys. I took it down a few weeks later. It wasn't fun at all... Facebook, in my opinion, is a lot less creepy.

Good luck! Hope they let you :)
